“I see myself in my photos &; I believe that they represent me. So, if you like what you see in my
photos, that means you like me as a human being.” In that case, fashion photographer, Mazen
Abrusour, must be widely admired. Mazen is a true example of a leader from his creative
work, but also someone who reaches people far beyond fashion.
With a highly coveted list of collaborators such as Harper’s Bazaar Arabia, ELLE, L’OFFICIEL,
Marie Claire, & several Vogue editions, his impeccable photography is one of the most sought
out in Dubai & the Middle East. By incorporating surrealist motifs in his work, Mazen’s limitless
style is undoubtably recognizable. In a previous lecture, Mazen states: “If I take a
picture of the scene on my phone &; a professional camera, the difference should be 10-20 %.
What the camera sees should be undeniably great regardless of the technicals.” He has mastered
creating a world the lens captures without compromise.
There’s no doubt Mazen’s success will continue to flourish with that type of eye. However, in the
height of the devasting news from Gaza resurfacing last October, Mazen has firmly decided to
use his platform to speak up for the Palestinian people. He exhibits solidarity with the innocent
& urges his following to take suite in remaining educated on the matter. In a time contaminated with short attention spans & fickle emotions, I find Mazen’s morality admirable. Advocating for the truth without fear of how it
may turn out is laudable. Refusing to be controlled like a puppet, Mazen’s unwavering respect
for the Palestinian movement exhibits humanitarian leadership that is noble. A reminder that no matter who you are, you can be the change you want to see in the world. As long as you believe & honor that change.
“I see myself in my photos & I believe that they represent me. So, if you like what you see in my
photos, that means you like me as a human being.” We hope to see more from Mazen in all he
strives for in the future. As a creative & a human being.
